Tartiflette is a luxurious French potato casserole originating from the Alps, especially the Savoy region. Known for its rich flavor and velvety texture, this dish combines layers of soft boiled potatoes, smoky bacon, sautéed onions, cream, and a generous topping of Reblochon cheese.

When baked, the cheese melts into the potatoes to create a comforting, creamy, and heavenly main course. It is often enjoyed during winter months, especially after a day in the mountains, and pairs beautifully with fresh salad or crusty bread.

Whether you're hosting guests or craving a cozy night-in meal, Tartiflette is the ultimate French comfort food you must try.

How to Make Authentic French Tartiflette

1. Prepare the Potatoes

Boil the sliced potatoes in salted water until just tender (not mushy). Drain and set aside.

2. Cook the Bacon & Onions

In a pan, melt butter and sauté the bacon until lightly crisp. Add the sliced onions and garlic. Cook until the onions turn soft and golden.
(Optional: Add a small splash of white wine and cook until absorbed.)

3. Layer the Tartiflette

Grease a baking dish and add a layer of potatoes. Add the bacon-onion mixture on top. Drizzle some heavy cream. Continue layering until everything is used.

4. Add the Reblochon Cheese

Place the cheese halves (rind up) on top of the dish. The rind helps create that iconic golden crust.

5. Bake the Dish

Bake at 200°C (392°F) for 25–30 minutes, or until the cheese melts completely and turns beautifully golden and bubbly.

6. Serve Hot

Serve Tartiflette steaming hot with a crisp green salad, crusty bread, or a glass of white wine for the perfect French dining experience.
